PCR Test – Campylobacter hepaticus (Spotty Liver Disease)
A fast and accurate PCR screening test designed to detect Campylobacter hepaticus, the bacterium responsible for Spotty Liver Disease in poultry. This assay uses a simple swab sample and is available as either single-bird testing (1 swab) or pooled screening (5 swabs), making it suitable for both individual cases and flock-level surveillance.

Ideal for use in flocks experiencing increased mortality, reduced egg production, or at risk of Spotty Liver Disease, this test supports early detection and helps guide timely management and biosecurity decisions.

How it Works

Once you have purchased the PCR test from our site,

  1. You will be mailed out swab(s), instructions and a submission form.
  2. Collect samples as per the included instructions (cloacal swab).
  3. Mail the form and the samples to the lab address given.

Results interpreted by our poultry vet, with suggestions of treatment if needed.

What is Campylobacter hepaticus

Campylobacter hepaticus is a bacterium associated with a condition known as Spotty Liver Disease in poultry, particularly chickens. This bacterial species is recognized for causing liver lesions and impacting the health and productivity of avian hosts.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a molecular biology technique used to amplify and analyze DNA. In the context of Egg Drop Syndrome, PCR is employed to detect the presence of the virus in samples.
