More Information:
Fowl cholera is a contagious bacterial disease caused by Pasteurella multocida that affects a wide range of birds, especially chickens, ducks, and turkeys. It can present suddenly with high mortality or take a chronic course with symptoms like swollen wattles, joint infections, nasal discharge, lethargy, and weight loss. The disease spreads through contaminated water, feed, wild birds, or equipment, and outbreaks are more common in stressed or overcrowded flocks. Prompt veterinary treatment with antibiotics is essential, but prevention through good biosecurity, rodent control, and vaccination in high-risk flocks is key to long-term control.
PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a molecular biology technique used to amplify and analyze DNA. In the context of Egg Drop Syndrome, PCR is employed to detect the presence of the virus in samples.
