Egg Drop Syndrome (EDS-76) PCR Test is a fast and accurate laboratory PCR screening test designed to detect Egg Drop Syndrome virus (EDS-76), an adenovirus associated with reduced egg production and shell quality abnormalities in poultry flocks. Using a simple swab sample, this test supports early disease detection and helps guide flock management and biosecurity decisions.

Egg Drop Syndrome can contribute to sudden or progressive drops in egg production, thin-shelled eggs, shell deformities, pale shells, reduced hatchability, and ongoing production losses within affected flocks. In some cases, egg quality changes may occur before obvious illness is observed within the flock.

  • Single bird PCR testing (1 swab)
  • Pooled flock PCR testing (5 swabs)

How it Works

Once you have purchased the PCR test from our site,

  1. You will be mailed out swab(s), instructions and a submission form.
  2. Collect samples as per the included instructions (cloacal swab).
  3. Mail the form and the samples to the lab address given.

Results will be emailed through once received by us

Please allow approximately one week for results after your sample arrives at the lab.

  • A PCR test of 5 swabs (pooled for flocks).

What is Egg Drop Syndrome (EDS)

Egg Drop Syndrome (EDS) is a viral disease that primarily affects birds, particularly chickens. The causative agent is the Egg Drop Syndrome virus (EDSV), which belongs to the family Adenoviridae. The virus is known for causing a drop in egg production and quality in affected poultry flocks.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a molecular biology technique used to amplify and analyze DNA. In the context of Egg Drop Syndrome, PCR is employed to detect the presence of the virus in samples.
