Infectious Coryza PCR Test for Chickens & Poultry

Infectious Coryza PCR Test is a fast and accurate laboratory PCR screening test designed to help detect Avibacterium paragallinarum, the bacterium responsible for infectious coryza in chickens and poultry flocks. Using a simple swab sample, this assay assists with early detection of respiratory disease and supports flock management, quarantine, treatment planning, and biosecurity decisions.

Infectious coryza is a common bacterial respiratory disease in poultry and may contribute to facial swelling, nasal discharge, sneezing, watery eyes, reduced appetite, decreased egg production, poor flock performance, and ongoing respiratory issues.

Available as:

  • Single bird PCR testing (1 swab)
  • Pooled flock PCR testing (5 swabs)

Helpful Resources

Respiratory disease outbreaks can significantly impact poultry health, production, and overall flock performance. Early testing and strong biosecurity practices play important roles in reducing disease spread and supporting informed flock management decisions.

What is infectious coryza

Infectious coryza is a highly contagious bacterial respiratory disease that affects poultry, particularly chickens. The disease is caused by Avibacterium paragallinarum and commonly results in facial swelling, nasal discharge, sneezing, conjunctivitis, reduced appetite, and drops in egg production.

PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is a molecular biology technique used to amplify and detect DNA. In the context of infectious coryza, PCR testing is used to identify the presence of Avibacterium paragallinarum in clinical samples quickly and accurately. Early detection can assist with treatment decisions, flock management, and biosecurity planning.
